And We’re Back August 22, 2010

We are back from Las Vegas, we were there from Tuesday-Saturday. It was our first time there and we had a great time. Every morning started with a run along the strip:

Wednesday- 3.5 miles + 2.5 miles of walking

Thursday- 4 miles + 4 miles of walking

Friday- 5 miles + 4.5 miles of walking.

We spent our days checking out basically all of the hotels and doing tons of walking, overall my GPS calculated 41 miles and that doesn’t count when it lost satellite reception inside the hotels for short periods of time. Here are some pictures to document our trip and meals.

We had a great time and it was nice to take a vacation with just the two of us. I’m very happy that we stayed active and tried to eat as healthy as we could, though I could have killed for lots of vegetables by the end of the trip, hehe. I made sure to have breakfast and dinner for sure everyday and if we were hungry, we had a little something around lunchtime. Our schedules were so off with the time difference, most mornings we were up and running the strip by 4:30 am and in bed by 8 pm, I feel so old.

What a Day!!! August 16, 2010

Last night we had a great time with friends, but maybe a few too many ribs and homemade strawberry daiquiris, :). I had my usual breakfast this morning of 1 egg. 4 egg whites; 1/2 c. oatmeal, and nonfat latte. Then I headed to the gym, though I really didn’t feel like it and did 1 hr., 15 min. of cardio on the elliptical and I lifted weights for shoulders and back. Once I got started, I felt much better and was definitely happy that I went. Here is lunch:  A can of tuna with All-Bran Crackers.  I was still hungry, so I had a FiberPlus bar, yum!!!Dinner consisted of 2 slices of flatbread pepperoni pizza with a green bellpepper.

After dinner, I headed out on a 4 mile walk with some friends from my neighborhood and am now officialloy exhausted, haha. We are headed to Las Vegas on Tuesday, so I need to finish packing for my trip, :).

 

Up too Late August 15, 2010

Last night I was up later than normal, so getting up at my normal time was a bit of a challenge for me. Once I did get up though, I tried out this recipe for  oatmeal pancakes found on this blog http://www.katheats.com/?page_id=289 and they were fantastic. I topped mine with a slather of crunchy pb and some sf syrup, yum, my typical breakfast all in one. I also had my typical non-fat latte alongside breakfast. The cucumbers (pictured) were alongside my lunch of fish and brown rice which I inhaled before I could even snap a picture, haha.

Then I headed to the gym because it was overly hot today and just didn’t feel like running 6 miles in 95 degree weather. My run ended up being only 5.16 miles because I looked at the clock and realized I had to get to the vet by noon to pick up my dog’s med’s and it was already 11:30 and I didn’t want to risk not getting there.

It was a slow, leisurely pace. As I stepped onto the treadmill I felt very low in energy and just decided to take it slow and hopefully I would be able to complete it. Though it wasn’t the full 6 miles, I know I could have easily made it (time permitting), so I am proud of myself for my mini-accomplishment.

Now I’m off to go make dinner to bring to a friend’s house this evening: Texas-style baby back ribs, a chopped salad, tater gems with fresh parmesan, and homemade guacamole as an appetizer, yum!!!

 

Decent Run August 13, 2010

After a long week of emotional ups and downs as well as finals, I hit the gym this morning. My half-marathon training called for 3 miles today, so I did a 10 min. warm-up, hit the weight room for some chest exercises and then did 3 miles on the treadmill in 32:48, which was a 10:56 pace. Today was supposed to be an easy run, so I kept it that way. We have a 6 miler tomorrow morning, so I wanted to “save myself” for that. I’m getting in the midst of half-marathon training and the long runs only get longer from here, hehe.

I ate pretty well today (no pictures though):

Breakfast: 1 egg, 4 egg whites; 1/2 c. oatmeal

Snack: protein bar

Lunch: 4 oz. of fish, 1/2 c. brown rice, 1 green bell pepper

Snack: multigrain ciabatta roll with butter spray with a chopped veggie salad(cucumbers, y& o bell pepper, red onion, avocado, iceberg lettuce)

Dinner: 4 oz. steak

I have plans tonight, so I may have something else a little later, but wanted to make sure I got some protein in.

I’m a bit nervous about my “long” run tomorrow, though I have done it before.

Does anyone else get nervous before their long runs?

After my light dinner, I was starving by the time I got home around 10:30, so I had a veggie chicken patty and a Fiberplus bar.

 

Made my Decision August 12, 2010

I decided that I want to continue blogging so that I can look back for myself to see how my eating and exercising was (or is) going. This week has been extremely busy and emotional for my husband and I. First off, I have two finals tomorrow and then I will be done with summer school yay!!! We are headed to Las Vegas to celebrate next week and to take a vacation with just the two of us, which we have never had.

My appt. this week was to find out the results of our tests to determine fertility. It is a long-drawn out process, but basically we are now moving onto procedures to increase our chances of conceiving, because up to this point, the whole natural thing just isn’t working out for us. We will see what that road ahead holds for us, but for now I am going to concentrate on staying active for ME, training for my next half-marathon, and eating as healthy as I can, :).

 

Deciding What to Do August 4, 2010

So, I have been back and forth with myself on this issue. It involves the blog, as much as I enjoy writing it, my days of eating are not too exciting right now as I am trying to really clean up the diet and cut some body fat finally, for me that means reducing my carbs, ugh. I don’t want to just log everyday and for it to be drab and boring. So, maybe I will head in a new direction and blog about the news we will receive at the doctor next week and our journey from there. I still have a few days to decide, so for now, I will take a few days of a break and we will go from there.

 

Worked my Tail off August 3, 2010

I was up early for a run, which I was not thrilled about because I knew it would be hot and muggy, our high today was 99. Despite the heat, I ran a 3 miler with a 10:40 pace, maybe I was just going fast to get out of the heat, hehe.

Then I came home to eat 1/2 c. of oatmeal and 2 veggie breakfast patties from MorningStar Farms. I also cooled off with a homemade nonfat latte.

Lunch consisted of 4 oz. tuna steak with a baked potato.

I was pretty hungry by mid-afternoon and had a granola bar, 2 hard pretzels, and 2 blocks of a dark chocolate bar (my fav!).

Then I hit the gym this evening for a Zumba class, weight lifting (back & shoulders), and a video fit class. I came home to make ground turkey breast stuffed into a whole wheat tortilla  with a side of a mushroom dish I made earlier in the day.

I am officially exhausted, which could be due to the 3 1/2 hours of exercise I did today, whew. Some days I get into it, hehe. I like to tack on a little extra on days when I have the time to get it in.
