Lazy Days September 30, 2010

Since the half-marathon on Saturday, I have been lazy about working out/getting to the gym, or rather haven’t, haha. I’ve been meaning to in my mind, but then I start on the mounds of schoolwork I have to do and clean the house from top to bottom, then its time for hubby to come home.

For the next month, I am spending as much time with him as possible, as he leaves at the beginning of November for a long year away.

The day began with about a 1.5 mile dogwalk for Aspen, then I came back home to have 2 scrambled eggs in a ww tortilla topped with my favorite salsa.  I am not a fan of store bought salsas at all, they always taste really sweet or have the consistency of ketchup, but this one is out of this world. The brand is La Sabrozita and it can be found in what they term the ethnic aisle at the grocery store. It is the closest thing to home unless I make it homemade.

I made it to the gym before my class today and I was that I at least got some sort of workout in. It was compromised of :

2 miles on the treadmil @ 11:15 pace & then 25 minutes of intervals on the elliptical(I just chose the variety workout and went after it).

Great Race, New PR for me September 26, 2010

Early this morning I set out to run the Women’s Half-Marathon in Nashville. It was the inaugural race, so I was definitely excited to be a part of that.

The weather was cooler than it has been, so that was nice for a change, but once I started running multiple miles and the sun came out, I definitely heated up. I planned to start out slower than usual and work up to a faster pace.  My pace actually ended up being al over the place, with 1 mile at 10:42, another at 10:11, and a few in the 12s. Overall though, I accomplished what I set out to, which was to complete it faster than I ran my first half-marathon last November, and I DID, by 11 minutes. My overall time was 2:33:40 which I don’t think is bad for a relative newbie, :).

The expo gave out very cute shirts too which I will definitely wear on my training runs in the future, which is a nice change from some of the shirts I have seen.

One of the mistakes I made for my first one was eating basically no breakfast (a slice of ww toast with a slather of pb), so I didn’t make the same one this time. For dinner the night before, I ate spaghetti and a few meatballs and tried to finish my bowl (restaurant serving), but I managed to eat about 2/3 of it before I was very full.

This morning, I ate a cinnamon raisin bagel with roughly 1 1/2 Tbs. pb and I feel like that held me over pretty well. I downed a pack of powergel chews on the run as well along with lots of water.

Overall, I am very happy with my performance and have realized that proper fueling and hydration is more important than I ever thought it would be. I definitely have more to learn and will keep looking for the perfect fit for me.

School has been keeping me extremely busy this semester, so I know I have been doing a horrible job of keeping up with the blog. I didn’t want it to be just what I ate for my meals everyday and super boring.

I do have news though, we have our official appt. in San Antonio to meet with a Reproductive Endocrinologist to see what he has to say.

I also signed up at the last minute, this past Sunday evening actually, to run in the women’s half-marathon in Nashville. I had wanted to sign up for it since I first heard about it, but noone was willing to say that they would actually do it and at that time, I did not want to do it by myself.

I had a potential running partner this past weekend and I got so excited about the race, that even when she said she wouldn’t be able to do it, I still signed up for it anyway because I just couldn’t let it pass me by. I hope to PR this race, but since I am not fully trained up for the half, my longest training run has only been 10 miles, we will see what happens, :).

My husband will be waiting at the finish line for me, so that may give me some motivation to keep going strong.


Haven’t been around September 10, 2010

These past few weeks have been a whirlwind. We went on vacation for a week, then I went back to TX for a week to baby-sit my sisters.

While I was back home in San Antonio, my husband called to me that he just found out that he will be deploying again and he leaves in less than 2 months. That news came as a huge surprise as we were set to move to another location next Spring and he was in the middle of applying to graduate school. They pushed all of that aside because they need him, haha. So anyway, he leaves in early November for another year, he will have been home for 17 months since his last one when he leaves for this one. I made the decision to move back to San Antonio for a year after I graduate in December to work full-time and focus on trying to conceive with the doctor my mom used in SA.

Other than that, half-marathon training is still going well and I plan to still run the race in SA on November 14th unless my husband happens to be leaving the few days surrounding it. I couldn’t bear to not be here to say goodbye.
